The Hellenic Copyright Organization (OPI) is a legal entity under private law, located in Athens (5, Metsovou Street) and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

OPI was established according to art. 69 of Law 2121/1993, «Copyright, related rights matters and cultural issues» (Official Gazette Α/25/1993) along with Presidential Decree 311/1994 (Official Gazette A/165/1994) art. 8 para. 13 and 14 of Law 2557/1997 (Official Gazette Α/217/1997), as well as art. 7 para. 13 of Law 2819/2000 (Official Gazette Α/84/2000).

Following the issuing of the Ministerial Decision No. 262844/18408/13772/689/ 04.06.2018 (Government Gazette B΄ 2085/07.06.2018) concerning the assignment to the Special Service of Exceptional Rights Management of Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) of the extraordinary administration of the rights of the rightholders – members of the independent management entity (IME) referred to in Article 50 with the distinctive title ‘AEPI’, the license of which has been revoked by means of the Ministerial Decision No. 224747/4952/15.05.2018 (Government Gazette B΄ 1767/17.5.2018), please be informed that, according to paragraph 2 of Αrticle 51A of Law 4481/2017, the assignment agreements concluded by the members of the former IME have been automatically terminated, and new identical agreements have been ipso facto concluded between the members of the former IME and HCO, being applicable for the time period remaining under the previous agreement, and which shall not, in any case, exceed the duration of exceptional rights management entrusted to the Special Service.

Rightholders and collective management organisations are enabled, within sixty (60) days following the date of publication, in the Government Gazette, of the Decision entrusting the collective management of the rights of the rightholders to the Special Service, in particular, from 8.6.2018 to 6.8.2018, to notify HCO in writing (either by post to the address: Metsovou 5, Athens, 106 82, or by sending an e-mail at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) their solemn declaration, bearing the certification of the authenticity of their signature established by a public authority, stating that they do not wish to confer the management of their rights on the Special Service. Following the expiry of the abovementioned deadline, the provisions of paragraph 2 of Article 12 of Law 4481/2017 concerning the termination of management authorization agreements, shall apply.
